Hello All From Bodh Gaya!

The land of impossible internet connections...................... lol   Just spent an hour uploading a few pics (very, very slow connections) and they just disappeared. Sooooooo for now, just text.

October 31st we took a car from Lumbini to Varanasi.  The roads weren't too bad, secondary roads for the most part with a exceedingly sufficient number of potholes.  After 12 hours on the road we arrived at Mikko's family's part of town, where Mikko was promptly recognized and hugged by a couple of the local boys.  That night we walked along the Ganges to a Middle Eastern restaurant Mikko knew from his previous time living in India.  It was somehow magical to be here in this holy city waking by this holy river that I have read about all my life.  When we return, we will rent a boat to watch the sun rise on the Ganges.

The next day, it was time to buy train tickets and then we hopped back into another car for the 6 hour + drive to Bodh Gaya.  We arrived around 4 pm. checked in, had supper and promptly went to bed.  The ride itself had been better tthan the day before as it was all on highway for the most part, but unfortunately, our driver was a bit shady, and thus the atmosphere in the was car sometimes tainted by the poison of greed.  Tiring.

Today, we visited the Maha Bodhi Temple, chanted, circumambulted, and sat for a bit on the grounds.  It is a beautiful setting, but I was surprised at how small the inner part of the temple was.

Okay, 'nuf for now.  Will try to upload pictures later.
